CUSIB Congratulates Moscow Helsinki Group Prize Recipient Kristina Gorelik
The Committee for U.S. International Broadcasting (CUSIB) congratulates Russian human rights reporter Kristina Gorelik (Кристина Горелик), who received the 2012 Moscow Helsinki Group prize for “journalistic activity aimed at promoting human rights values.”
Gorelik-Receives-MHG-Journalism-PrizeCUSIB Director Ted Lipien announced: “On behalf of CUSIB, I would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Kristina Gorelik. It is most appropriate that Kristina Gorelik received this honor today, on the International Human Rights Day, since at Radio Liberty, Ms. Gorelik specialized in human rights reporting. It is a political and human tragedy that the new American management of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) cancelled her programs and those of the other Radio Liberty journalists whom they fired.”
CUSIB Executive Director Ann Noonan continued: “CUSIB joins the growing number of government officials, human rights leaders, and Kristina Gorelik’s colleagues in appeals to the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) to restore her and all of the fired Radio Liberty journalists to their rightful posts.”
Kristina Gorelik is a journalist, member of Russia’s Union of Journalists, former human rights broadcaster at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) fired in September 2012, author of former Radio Liberty programs “The Third Sector,” “A Man Has A Right,” and “The Path of Freedom,” winner of the Moscow Helsinki Group Journalism Prize.
