CUSIB Encouraged by BBG's Selection of Kevin Klose to Lead RFE/RL

CUSIB.org - The Committee for U.S. International BroadcastingThe Committee for U.S. International Broadcasting, an independent and nonpartisan media freedom NGO, has issued a press release welcoming the selection by the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) of Kevin Klose as Acting President and CEO of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL).
Klose will replace Steven Korn whose resignation becomes effective January 25.
Klose was president of RFE/RL from 1994 to 1997, overseeing its relocation from Munich to Prague. In 1997-98, he directed the International Broadcasting Bureau. Klose was also president of NPR from 1998 to 2008, and was named President Emeritus in 2008.

CUSIB Encouraged by BBG’s Selection of Kevin Klose to Lead RFE/RL
The Committee for U.S. International Broadcasting (CUSIB – cusib.org) is encouraged by today’s announcement that Kevin Klose has been selected to serve as Acting President and CEO of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL).
CUSIB Executive Director Ann Noonan stated: “We are relieved that the Broadcasting Board of Governors has selected Kevin Klose to oversee Radio Europe/Radio Liberty, and we are hopeful that Mr. Klose’s journalistic integrity and ability to lead will help to resolve of the turmoil that has occurred during the past few months.  We believe that he will play a critical role in the future of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and its courageous journalists.”
CUSIB Director Ted Lipien stated: “We are pleased that Kevin Klose has accepted the responsibilities to serve as Acting President and CEO of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. We also remain confident that Mr. Klose will undo the demoralizing decisions of the prior management team to fire dozens of outstanding journalists and multimedia specialists.  We believe that Mr. Klose is the right leader to restore the reputation of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty  broadcasting and  Internet-based programs to Russia and other countries without free media during this critical time.”
